New ID time!
 This was taken on 28th August, 1999. My 8th birthday. SeaWorld Orlando, Florida. Thanks to everyone who helped me identify this animal! -------- We'd been to Florida before, but this was the first time I'd been there for my birthday. I'd asked if we could go to SeaWorld that day, and my parents happily obliged. After a few hours in the park, we headed across the bridge, towards the Shamu stadium. My parents spoke to a trainer, she was called Lindsay, they asked if I could do a little 'hands on' with the whales as it was my birthday. However, as I has only just turned 8, it wasn't safe....but she told us to pop by the underwater viewing area after the next show. So we did... We met her down there, and she told me and my parents to follow her into the backstage area, with a camera if they had one. There was a little window into underwater viewing. She sat me up on a window sill, just up to the glass. Tilikum, one of the whales, came over. She told me to put my cheek up to the glass. He put his tongue up to the glass as if to kiss my cheek. ...and people wonder why I adore these animals so much.  ------------------- My mother obviously took this photo, and it certainly wasn't a digital camera that was used. Tilikum is over 22ft long and weighs in at over 12,000 pounds. I'm glad to have shared such a tender moment with such a powerful animal. |
